Karen Stentaford is the photography technician and lecturer in the Department of Fine Arts at Mount Allison University. Karen is a graduate of the Master of Arts inPhotography program at the Edinburgh College of Art. Prior to her studies in Scotland, she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mount Allison University and Bachelor of Education, Visual Arts Specialist, from NSCAD University and Mount Saint Vincent University. She taught primary and secondary visual arts in Ontario before returning to
Mount Allison to Sackville.
Working in formats ranging from 35mm to 8"x10", Karen's photographs explore the experience of seeing through the classification and investigation of change, absence and memory. Among her recent projects, is (dis)regard, which looks at the Leven, Methil and Buckhaven areas in Scotland as a vehicle in which to explore transition in the built environment and sense of place. Her work has been exhibited in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. Karen continues to work with schools through various artist-in-residence programs in both New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
